Self introduction for interview, for freshers
“Tell me about yourself” is not about your family or your hobbies. It is an answer of under a minute, in four parts: who you are, what you did, what you would bring, and why you applied. Build yours below, or start from the example for your field.
The format, in four parts
1
Who you are
Your name, then your degree, college and year. Your town if you like. Ten seconds.
2
What you did
One or two things you did and what came of them: a project, internship, job or responsibility, with a number if there is one. This is most of the answer.
3
What you’d bring
Three skills this role asks for, which you really have. Take them from the job post.
4
Why this job
One true sentence about why you applied here. Then stop and let them ask.
Write yours

Sample answers by field
Copy the shape, then put in your own degree, work and reasons.
Software developer (B.Tech / BCA) · about 41 seconds
My name is Priya Raman, and I'm from Coimbatore. I graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science from PSG College of Technology in 2025. In my final-year project I built a library app that our college library now uses to track 6,000 books. Before that, I interned for two months at a Chennai startup, fixing bugs in their billing service. For this Software Developer role, I'd bring Java, Spring Boot and SQL. I applied because your team builds the kind of backend systems I enjoyed working on most.
Data analyst · about 41 seconds
My name is Arjun Mehta, and I'm from Indore. I graduated with a B.Sc in Statistics in 2025. For a local retailer, I built a Power BI sales dashboard that cut their weekly report from a day to an hour. In college I led a survey of 500 students for our department’s placement report. For this Data Analyst role, I'd bring SQL, Excel and Power BI. I applied because I want to work on data that decides something, and your analysts own the reports your stores run on.
B.Com / accounts · about 36 seconds
My name is Sneha Kulkarni, and I'm from Pune. I graduated with a B.Com from Symbiosis College in 2025. During a three-month articleship I reconciled about 400 GST invoices a month for small-business clients. I also filed ITRs for twelve family and neighbourhood clients last season. For this Accounts Executive role, I'd bring Tally Prime, GST returns and Excel. I applied because I want to grow into a finance analyst role, and your team handles accounts for growing companies.
Final-year student, campus placement · about 40 seconds
My name is Rahul Verma, and I'm from Lucknow. I'm in the final year of a B.Tech in Electronics, graduating in 2026. As placement coordinator for my branch, I scheduled 30 company drives and kept 180 students informed. My final-year project is an IoT soil-moisture sensor we tested on two farms near campus. For this Graduate Engineer Trainee role, I'd bring embedded C, circuit design and Python. I applied because your trainee programme rotates through design and testing, and I want to see both before I choose.
HR (MBA / BBA) · about 33 seconds
My name is Fatima Shaikh, and I'm from Hyderabad. I graduated with an MBA in HR in 2025. In a two-month internship at a staffing firm, I screened 300 applications and scheduled 60 interviews. I also ran onboarding for the 15 interns who joined after me. For this HR Executive role, I'd bring recruitment, onboarding and MS Excel. I applied because you hire at a pace where a recruiter’s week actually shows.
Nursing · about 33 seconds
My name is Anjali Thomas, and I'm from Kottayam. I graduated with a B.Sc in Nursing in 2025. In a six-month internship at a district hospital, I cared for up to eight patients a shift in the medical ward. For this Staff Nurse role, I'd bring patient assessment, IV cannulation and BLS. I applied because your hospital trains new nurses on rotation through critical care, which is where I want to work.
Customer support (12th pass / any graduate) · about 35 seconds
My name is Vikram Singh, and I'm from Jaipur. I graduated with a B.A. in English in 2024. For two years I handled billing and customer questions at my family’s shop, about 50 customers a day. I type 40 words a minute and speak Hindi, English and Rajasthani. For this Customer Support Executive role, I'd bring spoken English, Hindi and MS Excel. I applied because I enjoy solving a customer’s problem on the first call.
Mechanical / ITI · about 36 seconds
My name is Suresh Patil, and I'm from Kolhapur. I graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2024. In a one-year apprenticeship at an auto-parts plant, I helped cut machine changeover time on our line from 40 minutes to 25. For this Maintenance Technician role, I'd bring preventive maintenance, blueprint reading and precision measuring. I applied because I want to work on CNC machine maintenance, and your plant runs more CNC lines than any near Kolhapur.
The 30-second version
For “introduce yourself briefly”, a group discussion or a phone screen: drop your town and the second example. Everything else stays.

The answer everyone gives, and a better one
Good morning sir. My name is Rahul. I am from a middle class family. My father is a government employee and my mother is a homemaker. I have one younger sister. My strengths are I am hardworking, a quick learner and a team player. My hobbies are listening to music and playing cricket.

The first says nothing an interviewer can ask about, and every other candidate says it. The second hands them three things to ask about: the placement drives, the sensor and the trainee programme.
I am a passionate and dynamic person looking for a challenging role in a reputed company where I can grow.
My name is Sneha Kulkarni. I graduated with a B.Com from Symbiosis College in 2025. During a three-month articleship I reconciled about 400 GST invoices a month for small-business clients. For this Accounts Executive role, I'd bring Tally Prime, GST returns and Excel. I applied because I want to grow into a finance analyst role, and your team handles accounts for growing companies.
“Passionate” cannot be checked. 400 GST invoices a month can, and it is the question they will ask next.
Questions freshers ask
How long should a self introduction be in an interview?
Under a minute: 80 to 130 words said at a calm pace, about what the samples here run. Stop early rather than late; the follow-up questions are where you get to say more. If the interviewer says “briefly”, give the 30-second version: name, degree, one thing you did, and the role. The builder above times both.
Should I talk about my family background?
Only if they ask. “Tell me about yourself” in an interview means your work: what you studied, what you did, what you can do for this role. If they ask about family next, one sentence is enough.
Should I mention hobbies and strengths?
Skip the list. Saying “hardworking and a quick learner” uses ten seconds and proves neither. If a hobby is real proof (you run a cricket club, you post code every week), say what you did in it instead.
Should I start with “Good morning”?
Greet them when you walk in or join the call, then start the answer with your name. Saying “good morning” again inside the answer adds nothing.
Self introduction in Hindi: interview me apna introduction kaise de?
Chaar hisse, ek minute se kam mein: apna naam aur degree; ek kaam jo aapne kiya aur uska nateeja (project, internship ya dukaan ka kaam bhi chalega); is role ke liye aapki teen skills; aur aapne yahan apply kyun kiya. Family aur hobbies tab batayiye jab woh poochein. Interview English mein ho to answer English mein dijiye; ratiye mat, bas teen-chaar baar bol kar practice kijiye.
Is the HR round introduction different from the technical round?
Same four parts, different weight. In a technical round, spend longer on the project and the skills. In an HR round, spend longer on why you applied and what you want to learn, and keep the project to one sentence.
What about a phone or video interview?
The same answer, a little slower and shorter: on a call people cannot see you pause, so the 30-second version with one example often works better. Keep your résumé open in front of you so the dates and numbers match.
Should I memorise my self introduction?
Know the four parts and the numbers, not the sentences. A learned answer sounds learned, and one interruption makes you lose your place. Say it aloud three or four times in your own words.
What about experienced candidates?
Replace the degree with your current role and years, and make both examples things you did at work, with numbers. “I’m an Accounts Executive with three years at a CA firm, handling GST and TDS for 40 clients…” is the opening.
Make sure the résumé says the same
Interviewers ask about what is on the page, so the project and numbers in your answer should be on your résumé too. Score it free, with no account, and see the three fixes worth most.
