Strengths and weaknesses, answered properly
A strength is only believed with an example behind it. A weakness is only a good answer with a fix beside it. Write both below.
Write yours
Your strength
“What are your strengths?”
One of my strengths is [your strength]. [One time it showed, and what came of it.]
Your weakness
“What is your weakness?”
[A real weakness, said plainly.] [What you do about it now.]

Ideas, with what proves them
Strengths
Breaking a big task into steps
Proof: A project you finished on time because you planned it in parts.
Explaining things simply
Proof: Tutoring, a presentation, helping a teammate understand a tool.
Learning a new tool quickly
Proof: A tool you learned for a project or internship, and how fast you used it.
Staying calm with upset people
Proof: Customers at a family shop, a part-time support job, a fest crowd.
Checking details
Proof: Errors you caught: in data, invoices, code, a report.
Following through
Proof: Something you kept going for months: a club, a side project, a routine.
Weaknesses
Saying yes to too many requests
Fix: Writing each one down with a date and agreeing priorities.
Nervous speaking to large groups
Fix: Presenting in class or at a club on purpose, and practising aloud.
Spending too long on small details
Fix: Setting a time limit per task and checking with your lead what matters.
Not asking for help early
Fix: Asking after a set time stuck, say thirty minutes.
Limited experience with a tool the role uses
Fix: A course or small project in it, with what you have done so far.
Questions people ask
Can I say “I am a perfectionist” as a weakness?
Interviewers hear it every day and read it as a dodge. Pick a real, fixable weakness that is not central to the job, and say what you are doing about it.
How many strengths should I mention?
One, maybe two, each with an example. One strength with proof is more convincing than five without.
Can a weakness be a skill I don’t have yet?
Yes, if it is not the main skill of the job. “I haven’t used Tableau much; I’ve done two dashboards in it this month” is honest and shows the fix.
