Personal details and declaration in your résumé

For a private company: name, phone, email, city and one link, in one line under your name. Nothing else. For a government form or a biodata: exactly what the form asks, and a signed declaration.

What goes on, and what stays off

Put on every résumé

  • Full name

As on your degree certificate, so a background check matches it.

  • Phone, with +91

One number you answer. Recruiters call more often than they email.

  • A plain email address

firstname.lastname@ reads better than a nickname from school.

  • City and state

Recruiters filter by location. The street address can wait for the offer.

  • One link

LinkedIn for most roles; GitHub or a portfolio when the work is the proof.

Leave off, unless a form asks

  • Date of birth, age, gender, marital status

Not needed to judge your work, and an invitation to judge something else.

  • Father’s or mother’s name, religion, caste

Biodata and government forms ask for these; a private-company résumé does not.

  • Aadhaar, PAN, passport or bank numbers

Never. A résumé is forwarded to people you will never meet. HR asks for these after an offer.

  • Full postal address and pincode

City and state are enough to show where you can work.

  • A photo

Unless the posting asks for one. It takes space and some applicant systems cannot read it.

  • The declaration

Your application already says it is true. Keep it for the forms that ask for one.

Write yours

It also checks for an Aadhaar or PAN number, a full address and a nickname email.

Questions people ask

Is a declaration necessary in a resume?

Not for private companies. It is expected on government and PSU applications, in a biodata, and on some campus or hospital forms. When a form asks for one, use the standard line, sign it, and add the place and date.

What is the correct declaration format?

“I hereby declare that the information given above is true to the best of my knowledge and belief.” Then Place, Date and your signature, with your name in brackets below. Write the date when you sign, not when you first make the file.

Should I add my date of birth?

Only when the form asks, which government jobs often do because of age limits. On a private-company résumé, leave it out.

What about languages known?

Add them when the job uses them: a sales role in Tamil Nadu, a support role in Hindi and English, a translator. Otherwise they take a line that a skill could use.

Where do personal details go: top or bottom?

Contact details go at the top, under your name, in one line. If a form needs the rest (date of birth, father’s name), it goes in a short Personal Details block at the end, before the declaration.

The space you save goes to skills and results

Score your résumé free against what employers ask for, with no account. For a government form, the biodata format has every personal field and the declaration laid out.
