Resume summary examples for experienced candidates

Three lines: your title and years, three skills the jobs you want ask for, and one result with a number. It is the first thing a recruiter reads, and often the only thing before they decide to keep reading.

Still in college or just graduated? Career objective for freshers.

Accounts Executive with 2 years of experience in a CA firm, skilled in GST returns, TDS and Tally Prime. Handle monthly GST and TDS filings for 40 small-business clients, with no late filings in two years.

“Various” and “etc.” hide the scale. Forty clients and no late filings show it.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between a resume summary and an objective?

An objective says what you want; a summary says what you have done. Freshers have little to summarise, so their two lines lean on degree and projects (see our career objective guide). After a year of work, write a summary and lead with the job.

How long should a professional summary be?

Three lines, about 40 to 70 words. If it runs longer, drop the second result first, then the line on what you want next.

What if I don’t have numbers?

Count something: clients handled, tickets closed a day, reports owned, people trained, the size of the budget or team, how long something used to take. An honest estimate (“about 50 a day”) is fine if you can explain it in the interview.

How do I write a summary for a career change?

Start with the job you have, then a result that uses skills the new field needs, then what you have done to move (a course, a project), and end with “Moving into…”. The builder switches to that wording when you tick “changing field”.

Should the summary change for each job?

Change the three skills to the ones each posting asks for, if you have them, and lead with the result closest to that job. The title and years stay.

What should I write in my Naukri or LinkedIn profile summary?

The same three lines, then a fourth on the cities or work mode you want. Recruiters search by title and skill words, so use the spelling job posts use. BananaJobz is not affiliated with Naukri or LinkedIn.

Then make the rest of the page match

Score your résumé free, with no account, against a job you want. BananaJobz then tailors it to each job, using only what is already on it, so the summary and the skills always match the posting.
